I love smoothies (when it isn’t freezing outside). I have been making smoothies since I was a kid and when I was in high school I prided myself that I could make smoothies that tasted just like Jamba Juice’s smoothies (recipes to come soon!). I have found that if I am craving ice cream I can usually satisfy the craving with a healthful smoothie! This smoothie especially, because it has a very thick and creamy consistency, very similar to soft-serve ice cream. Aaah, the beauty of frozen bananas. No matter what type of smoothie they are in, the bananas always make it smooth and creamy. :)
I also like to put smoothies in the freezer, when they are getting slightly melty, and let them refreeze a bit. Then you can go in with a spoon and scrape off the newly frozen parts…. yum!
As an added bonus, this smoothie is even ice cream flavored, Neapolitan! No more ice cream runs for me! At least for now…
This recipe is versatile and can work with whatever you have. If you don’t have hot chocolate powder then you can use chocolate syrup or chocolate milk (just replace the vanilla milk with chocolate milk and use vanilla extract in place of hot cocoa powder)
1 Frozen banana
1/2 cup strawberries
2 TBS hot cocoa powder
1 cup vanilla soy milk (or 1 cup milk and 2 tsp vanilla extract)
The best part about smoothies is the simplicity of the directions. :)
Blend all the ingredients in the blender until smooth. Serve and enjoy!
